Consider this your Public Service Announcement for the day.
Whatever you’re doing right now, put it on hold and backup your computer files. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.
I’ll write another post soon to give the full Amanda-length backstory, but take it from a girl that is about to shell out a lot of cash to *try* to recover files she highly values: it can happen to you. I have to admit that, although I knew better, I kept thinking that I had all the time in the world to set up a backup system. But as I put off setting it up, my data sat vulnerably on one (dying) hard drive.
“It’s only data, don’t be so dramatic,” you might say. And on one hand I think that’s true. But if there are things on your computer that can’t be replaced, such as photos or writings, it is quite upsetting to think that you may never be able to get them back. So, if my drama keeps you from experiencing what I did last night as I got the news from the Apple “genius”, then I think it’s worth it.
And if you are curious about suggestions for a backup system, check out this post from Stephen Elliot.
