Knowing

I just finished watching “Knowing”. I’m not sure it was exactly the kick back, relaxing flick I was shooting for, but it was certainly an interesting one.

I’m still not exactly sure what I think about it. There were some interesting philosophical and theological ideas in there, but I think the thing that really bugs me is the implication of alien involvement. It just seems to me that so many movies have so much potential and then in the end cop out with the alien answer. Maybe it’s because it’s not easy to come up with “explanations” for the supernatural, but it feels like there could be so much more creativity than that.

What are your thoughts? Have you watched “Knowing? If so, what did you think? What about all of the other movies that seem to use aliens to tie up all the messy, mysterious loose ends?

  1. I think it’s just easier to have an explanation than leave it untied. People don’t like untied. We need the finality of an ending. If it’s not there they’ll vote the movie out with their wallets until it’s replaced by one that doesn’t leave them thinking.

Signs is an alien movie that drives me nuts. It’s definitely aliens the whole time, but why do creatures deathly allergic to water come to a planet that’s 2/3rds water!? Dumbest aliens ever. Intergalactic Darwin Awards all around.

  2. Knowing was pretty entertaining until the end. I’m sitting here trying to think of what the movie was about, and I can’t figure it out. I’m still stuck on the picture of Ezekiel 1, thinking that it had some greater importance in the movie and hoping that it wasn’t referring to the aliens as God revealing Himself. Either way, Cage sees this important picture a couple times throughout the movie but never looks the chapter up in the bible… for a scientist he’s not much of a researcher.

Here’s a random thought… was the whole intention of the aliens giving the sheet of numbers to the girl, then to Cage, just for the simple fact that they wanted Cage’s approval to take his son with them?

These alien movies are made with the alien thing in mind. Just their attempt to do a different spin on it, but this one failed. Heck, it’s not like I even expected much with Cage as an actor… has he ever done a good movie?
