A Faith Story

Get It Off Your Chest

It is such a powerful thing when we talk with each other about the things that are going on in our hearts and heads.  They may not always be things we think of as sin, but I think that often those things we don’t want to “bother” others with are just the things we need to share.

John 3:20 says, “Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.”  But as we share those things that cause us worry or anger or fear, we bring them into the light and cut their ability to root deeper into our hearts. So many times, thoughts seem so big and dramatic and painful in my head – but when I share them outloud with a friend they lose their impact and I’m able to see them for what they really are.

Is there something that is weighing heavily on your heart?  Whether it’s something that’s worrying you or a thought or action you aren’t proud of, take James’ advice and

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”
James 5:16
