Recovering Joy

How do you get back the joy from yesterday?

I was thinking about it this morning and I don’t think we can – or should.  I think somehow that joy belonged to yesterday. I think that just maybe our joy today is meant to be a new thing, like the daily manna for the Israelites. God’s mercies are new every morning and I think He wants to do a fresh thing in us each day.  To breathe a fresh breath of His Spirit and life – and joy – into us as we spend time with Him on a daily basis.

It may seem like semantics, but I think it might be an important paradigm shift.  When we want back the joy from yesterday, aren’t we really saying that we want back other elements from yesterday that brought us joy?  But God wants to bring new joy in new ways with a fresh perspective on the day.

Let’s be thankful for the manna we received yesterday and the joy that was in it. But let’s not forget to get out there and pick up the fresh goodness He’s provided for today!

Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and joy in his dwelling place.
                                     -1 Chronicles 16:27

  1. Needed to read that today. Thanks for sharing. It’s a crucial shift in thinking and not clinging to the old, but trusting God enough to do something equally or more incredible but in a new fashion!
