Breaking Free From the Web

web, spider web, water droplets

Fighting lies and negative thoughts is a lot like trying to get free from a spider web.

They often take you by surprise and it is difficult to find the end and get the last piece of the ghostly web off of you. Even when you remove that final translucent thread you are often left feeling like it’s still there, like you just can’t shake it and a spider might pop up at any moment.

Lies are tricky like that. It’s easy to say we just have to change our mindset, to choose to think positive thoughts and to believe the truth. Much like we just have to stop, be calm, and remove the spider web. That’s true; that’s all you have to do. But the *work* of doing that is often a little more involved and those last whispers can be hard to remove.

But the only way out truly is through. The web won’t come off if we flail in alarm and despair and don’t set about doing the work of becoming free. No matter how many times I see one more piece of that lie, that self-doubt, that fear popping up the truth is still the same. Freedom is still available and just on the other side of the web.

I believe Christ has made a way through the web. Why do I so often forget to access that freedom, that assistance?

Do you find yourself caught in a web of lies and negative thought today, too? Let’s take hold of the peace Christ offers in the midst of these things and ask Him to help us see the truth, truly *believe* the truth *for ourselves* and to break free and leave the web behind – once and for all.

This I declare about the Lord:

He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;

he is my God, and I trust him.

For he will rescue you from every trap

and protect you from deadly disease.

He will cover you with his feathers.

He will shelter you with his wings.

His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

–Psalm 91:2-4
